Placebo: Once More With Feeling (Singles 1996-2004)

By Lindsey Rosati

Brit-pop band, Placebo, hits the shelves with a new singles collection, “Once More With Feeling, Singles 1996-2004.”

The album has already been on the UK Top Ten Album Chart, as high as NO. 8, since its first release.

Placebo is re-releasing the singles collection. Some people might ask why a band would re-release a greatest hits album, or in this case, a singles collection. Well they decided to add bonus material which includes a limited edition cd featuring some of the band’s favorite remixes.

The bonus disc has 10 remixed songs including “Pure Morning,” “Special K” and “Black-Eyed.”

It works out all right in the end, giving fans much more than they thought, unless they already bought it and now have to go spend another $12, which sucks for any broke college student.

Guest vocals by the one and only David Bowie are on track “Without You I’m Nothing.” Bowie happens to be a huge fan of the Placebo lads and their working relationship continues to grow.

Placebo has a hip, relaxed rock sound with telling-it-like-it-is lyrics. Their sound is carried by multi-layered electronic feeling beats complete with singer, Brian Molko’s, mysterious, almost gothic, vocals.

Placebo is a touch of glam rock including make-up and all, but with such influences as the Pixies and Sonic Youth.

When Placebo first jumped on scene, they had the pleasure of opening up for bands like U2 and the then reunited Sex Pistols.

Fans can also purchase the singles collection DVD, which features all the band’s music videos to date plus previously unseen footage and a recent interview filmed for the album’s release.

“Once More With Feeling” gives you some of Placebo’s best songs and shows off its talent.
