Delightful play warms hearts

The School of Theatre and Dance presented Dylan Thomas’ 1954 classic “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” Wednesday night. The show continues today and Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Stevens Building’s Corner Theatre.

The play features the bachelor of fine arts freshman class, which includes Kristina Cottone, Henry Delcid, Charles Gardner, Larry Hickey, Troy Hopkins, Bea Landers, James Lee III, Samantha Luhn, Faith Streng, Sean Walsh and Amy Wilson.

The stage props were small houses painted in soft pastel colors. Fake snow and snowballs were on the ground. The cast wore simple clothing – black pants and turtlenecks along with heavy winter coats wrapped with scarfs and hats.

“I have been bewitched by this piece and have always wanted to do it,” said director Deborah Robertson, head of B.F.A. acting. “The language is so beautiful and lyrical.”

The production was created for the B.F.A. freshman class as a form of training. It was designed to give them the opportunity to not only attend class, but to also give them experience for future shows.

“My favorite thing was blowing up the balloon and popping it,” Gardner said. When he popped the balloon, two kids in the front row roared with laughter.

Tickets for the show are $3.
