Good Charlotte: The Chronicles of Life and Death

By Lindsey Rosati

Benji asks, “Is anybody listening?”

Sorry Benji, but I hope not!

Good Charlotte’s third album, “The Chronicles of Life and Death,” is an attempt that comes up short. To make matters worse, the band decided to put out two exactly alike and terribly bad versions of this record.

The band’s lyrics are extremely asinine and make you wonder what happened to the catchy hits such as “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” and “Little Things” that made them famous.

The record is a combination of gothic beats, poppy lyrics and screeching vocals. All the tracks sound the same. Good Charlotte’s decision to experiment with different musical styles didn’t pay off.

Who came up with the idea to have five tattooed, teenybopper punk white boys attempt to rap?

The opening track, “Once Upon A Time: The Battle of Life and Death,” is an instrumental piece that sounds like it belongs in “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Sadly, the group has been nominated for the “Best Rock” category at the MTV Europe Awards. If Good Charlotte is rock, the music industry is in some serious trouble.

Good Charlotte happens to be one of Hilary Duff’s favorite bands – enough said!
