Final candidate for vice president of Student Affairs to hold forum

The second and final candidate for vice president of Student Affairs, Melvin Cleveland Terrell, will meet with faculty, staff and students in an open session at 11 a.m. today at the Holmes Student Center’s Illinois Room.

Terrell is the current vice president of Student Affairs at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. The first candidate for the position, Connie Foley, was on campus for interviewing last week. Foley is the current assistant vice president of Student Affairs at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

Terrell had dinner with the Search Committee on Wednesday evening and will meet with the committee twice more during his stay. After the open session today, Terrell will have lunch with various student leaders and Michael Coakley, director of Student Housing and Dining Services. He will meet with various other administrators Friday before his exit interview with the Search Committee and final meeting with Ivan Legg, executive vice president and provost.

Legg said all input from the groups who met with both candidates will be put into writing and analyzed after Terrell departs. The Search Committee will meet Wednesday to make the final decision as to whom, if either of the candidates, will be offered the position.

“Chances are, we will probably decide on a final candidate,” Legg said.

After the committee makes a decision, it has to go through the affirmative action process and make sure everything is in order before making an offer to the candidate, Legg said. He said it likely will get clearance to do so early in the week of April 26.

The position will be announced publicly once the candidate has accepted the offer, Legg said.
