Second City improv show to hit the stage

By Laurel Marselle

The Campus Activities Board will bring the comedy improv group The Second City to NIU at 7 p.m. March 2 at the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom.

“It will be a comedy improv geared toward college-age students,” CAB Speakers Coordinator Tiffany Gonzales said.

The theater launched the careers of comic greats John Belushi, Mike Myers, Bill Murray, George Wendt and Tim Meadows.

Since 1959, The Second City has established itself as a Chicago landmark and a national treasure.

During the 1960s, The Second City’s popularity exploded. The theater transformed from a Chicago favorite into a national and international comedic tour de force.

The theater gained more popularity with the debut of Saturday Night Live, which featured Second City alumni.

Eventually, The Second City made the jump from live theater to television and continues to offer nightly comedy shows as well as a variety of other programs and services.

The show is free. For more information, call 753-1580.
