The race is on

A localized version of a popular reality TV show is coming to NIU, and residence hall students are eligible to be contestants.

“The Amazing Race: NIU,” put on by junior communication major Dave Della Terza, won’t take place until late March, but auditions for the show begin Monday.

A camera will follow each of the eight two-person teams, and after two days of shooting, Della Terza will edit the tapes and make them into six half-hour shows, which he hopes to show on Channel 8 in the residence halls.

Auditions for the show will be held Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Everyone auditioning must arrive with an application, available at www.niurace.com.

The concept of the show is to pit eight teams against each other and have them race to complete various tasks. The last team to complete each task will be eliminated until one team remains. The winning team will receive a $250 Target gift card.

Della Terza approached the Residence Hall Association with his idea, and it agreed to donate $800 toward the effort.

One of the stipulations, however, was that all competitors must live in the residence halls.

The show is set to be filmed March 27 and 28.
