Hair everywhere

By Mike Neumann

The NIU School of Theatre and Dance department will perform the musical “Hair” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the first of eight performances at the Stevens Building’s O’Connell Theatre.

“We have been rehearsing for about seven weeks,” said Paula Frasz, director and choreographer. “The musical has a live rock band that is on a 12-foot scaffolding during the show.”

In addition to the band, the production is sure to have plenty of eye candy to keep the audience entertained.

“We fly, jump on trampolines, walk on stilts and do a lot of action and dance,” Frasz said. “We put an actual Volkswagen bus on the stage that we push around and jump in and out of.”

The musical will be performed at the O’Connell Theatre from Thursday to Sunday and Oct. 30 to Nov. 2. Times for the shows are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sundays.

“We have only been selling tickets for about a week,” said marketing director David Booth. “According to box office reports, they are selling pretty well.”

Tickets are $7 for students, $14 for adults and $8 for seniors. For tickets or information, call the box office at 753-1600.
