Softball game called becuase of weather

Being down 7-0 in the third inning against visiting DePaul didn’t hurt the NIU softball team.

The reason it didn’t was because the weather was as bad as the defense of NIU (14-10). The game was called by the home plate umpire in the top of the third inning and the non-conference matchup won’t be rescheduled.

Huskie pitcher Amy Krahula didn’t receive any help defensively as three errors helped ninth-ranked DePaul score seven runs in the second inning, six of which were unearned.

NIU’s offense wasn’t given an opportunity to get started either as DePaul’s Lindsay Chouinard was working on a no-hit shutout before the game was called. She was trying to get her sixth shutout for the season.

On a day that looked ugly from the start, both teams decided to play with a light drizzle dampening the field.

After about 30 minutes, the light drizzle turned into a steady rain that turned the field soup-like. At 3:34 p.m., the game was called.
