Softball falls to ISU

In-state schools haven’t helped the NIU softball team’s 16-15 record this year.

The latest fall came by the hands of host Illinois State 1-0 on Wednesday.

The Huskies have a 1-5 record against teams that hail from Illinois. Last season, they had a 2-7 record against Illinois teams.

Audra Rast threw a complete game shutout while fanning 13 Huskies and allowing only two hits for the Redbirds (23-17). She now has 17 complete games and nine shutouts.

It was the fifth time this season that NIU has been shut out.

Every Huskie that faced Rast struck out at least once, except for Megan Meyer, who was 0 for 2.

Lisa Mattke and Toni Del Toro each had one hit apiece for the Huskies.

Kathy Dearborn threw five innings for NIU, giving up no runs on four hits.

Freshman Paige Granath pitched in the sixth inning for the Huskies. She gave up two hits and allowed the only run to cross the plate on a Kate Stake double.
