Mid-season reality strikes

By Marcus Leshock

Ah, it’s the new year! And with that comes everyone’s favorite season – MIDSEASON! Time for the networks to roll out all of the winners that they past on in the fall. Empty timeslots from blockbusters like Fox’s “Girls Club” (only two shows, ouch!) and ABC’s “Dinotopia” are dying to be filled. I know you’re thinking, “What were they thinking?” Well, hold that thought, a whole slew of reality trash is headed your way. Here’s some of our favorites:

“Star Search” with host Arsenio “Gimme a break” Hall now is showing on CBS. Apparently the network is hoping to ride the “American Idol” coattails. Hey-ohhhh!

“Celebrity Mole: Hawaii” will hit the airwaves on ABC with huge, A-list celebrity names like Stephen Baldwin and Corbin Bernsen. Wait, didn’t they say there would be celebrities on this show?

“Are You Hot? The Search for America’s Sexiest People” coming to ABC will allow home viewers to vote for the people they believe to be the hottest people in America. Like on “American Idol,” contestants will be critiqued by a panel of judges. Watch your favorite air-headed beauty queen get her confidence demolished, with hilarious results.

“The Surreal Life” on the WB has washed-up celebrities like Webster and M.C. Hammer living under the same roof. There’s nothing like watching broke pseudo-celebrities argue over who has to dust the shelves.

“High School Reunion” another WB winner, puts 1992 high school graduates from the Chicago suburbs on Maui. Complete with such nicknames as “The Tall Girl” and “The Class Clown,” the long-time graduates can get back at an old bully, or show off how they’ve gone geek to chic, or maybe even fall in love (yeah, right).

Let’s not forget those past gems that warranted sequels.

“The Osbournes” on MTV is currently in its second season, and judging by the newest ratings, most likely on its way out. But don’t worry fans, like every flavor of the month, Sharon Osbourne will be hosting her own daytime talk show next fall.

“The Anna Nicole Show” is back on the E! network. Who is watching this show and why are they watching it? Stop watching, please. Just stop. Now.

“Survivor: Amazon” will be appearing on CBS soon. Once again contestants will go throw various challenges in order to win a heavily taxed million bucks. Same dumb contest, new crazy location. Time to tired show up the river, pardon the pun.

We wish you all a safe and happy midseason. Happy wretching, I mean, watching.
