Dungeon hosts no-problems party

Cold weather and a hefty security force made for good parties at the Dungeon this weekend.

David Hana, owner of the club, was excited about the outcome of the festivities over the weekend.

“It was awesome,” Hana said. “Everybody was having fun. I was having fun.”

According to DeKalb police reports, no trouble was reported at the Dungeon over the weekend.

Lt. Jim Kayes of the DeKalb Police Department was pleased with the handling of the security at the local club during the Huskie Derby events on Friday and Saturday nights.

Kayes attributed the success of the violence-free evenings to the police presence in the parking lot and the cold weather, both factors deterring the loitering that has caused problems after parties previously held at the the nightclub.

The department had three officers patrolling the parking lot to prevent loitering, with back-up on call if needed. The only instance where further police assistance was necessary was when entrance into the club slowed and anxious party-goers rushed the door, creating a traffic jam of bodies. According to Kayes, a dozen more officers were called to the scene to make sure things did not get out of hand.

Police used a bull horn to get the crowd to back off, Kayes said.

“We did have people rush the door a little,” Hana admitted. “But, the [police and the hired personnel] did a great job.”

Kayes also was impressed with the security hired to man the door and work inside the Dungeon.

“Security at the door was pretty big, pretty forceful and pretty effective,” Kayes said.
