A DeKalb County grand jury has indicted the two NIU students charged in the Oct. 28 robbery of a local 7-Eleven employee.

Both Christopher Fischer, 21, and Dennis Reed, 20, were indicted on counts of armed robbery and robbery, as well as four counts of aggravated battery.

The two allegedly attacked Shilpi Majumdar, 34, outside of the 7-Eleven Food Store, located at 930 N. Annie Glidden Road, as she was going to make a bank deposit.

According to DeKalb County court records, the two made off with Majumdar’s purse, which contained $1,200, after attacking her.

Reed allegedly distracted the woman using a spray can, while Fischer grabbed the woman in a choke hold.

Reed also allegedly was going to be paid between $50 and $100 for helping Fischer, a former employee of 7-Eleven.

According to court records, both men have admitted to being part of the robbery. Reed stated that Fischer battered the victim. He also said that he and Fischer planned to steal money from the woman as she left the store.

The two men, who share a West Lincoln Highway apartment, were arrested the day after the robbery.

Their bonds were set at $100,000 each, but were released after posting the required 10 percent two weeks ago.

Fischer’s court date is set for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 13, while Reed’s is set for 9 a.m. the same day.
