Larry Quick to visit campus

ongressional candidate Larry Quick arrives on campus today to speak about his race against NIU alumnus and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.

Quick, a Democrat, will speak to a political science class on public opinion at 11 a.m. at DuSable Hall.

“It’s not going to be a partisan speech against his opponent Denny Hastert,” said Barbara Burrell, instructor of the course. “I hope he will talk about his background and what it is like on the campaign trail. The point is to talk about what it is like running against a powerful person [like Hastert].”

Quick and Hastert are the only candidates on the ballot for the 14th Congressional District seat.

Burrell added that 8 percent of students recently polled by her class knew about Quick and his views.

After speaking to the class, Quick will go directly to the Blackhawk Cafe where he is having lunch with faculty and staff, a spokesman for Quick said.
