BB shooter arrested

By Nick Swedberg

BB guns once were used to shoot at G.I. Joe figures, but on Friday, one gun was used to shoot at passers-by.

According to DeKalb Police Department reports, Ricky Keefer, 20, of 833 Ridge Road, was shooting at those passing by the West Ridge Apartments, located at 919 Ridge Drive. The shootings took place at 2:08 p.m.

A call was placed to DeKalb police, and upon arrival, officers took Keefer away in handcuffs from his Amber Manor apartment.

Keefer was charged with shooting an air gun within the city and disorderly conduct.

Members of the service staff at West Ridge said Keefer was shooting at them and their wagon from across the road. The wagon was loaded with fire extinguishers. The four service staff employees were working at the West Ridge Apartments when they were fired upon. None of the employees reported being hit.

There also has been no report of anyone else being hit by the BBs.

However, Keefer did hit a third-story West Ridge apartment window leaving a BB-sized hole.

No motive has been reported on why Keefer was shooting the BB gun.

However, police did not disclose the type of air gun used.

Investigations on the shooting still are underway.
