Lacrosse falls

“It was a fun game.”

That was the best way NIU lacrosse club member Joe Curtis could describe Sunday’s 23-7 loss to a men’s club team from Chicago called Windy City.

“We don’t go into the games against the men’s teams super serious,” said Curtis.

The Huskies were only down 10-7 at the half, but the club made a decision to play many of the new players in the second half. This gave those players a chance to show what they are learning and gave them valuable game experience.

“You either win all your games or play all your players. On Sunday we made a decision to play all the guys, despite the score,” said club member Bill Polasky.

Tim Scheider made an impression on many of the players in his first-ever appearance as goaltender. Other players who made an impression on Sunday were Rich Fantozzi, who netted the hat trick with three goals. Mike Klappenbach and Dave Rask each tallied twice.

The club’s record dropped to 7-3, and they will try to rebound against two tough opponents this weekend.

On Saturday, the Lake Shore Men’s Club comes to DeKalb for a 1 p.m. match. The team has many NIU alumni on it who will also play on Sunday. That’s because the Huskies will face the NIU Alumni team on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be played at the NIU lacrosse field, which is north of the Stevenson Towers parking lot.
