DeKALB — NIU has selected its next Vice President of Student Affairs: Clint-Michael Reneau.

Reneau is a consultant for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). He has four years’ worth of experience, from July 2017 to July 2021, as Vice President of Student Affairs at California State University, Fullerton. In this role, he focuses on diversity, equity and inclusion as well as leadership effectiveness, according to the Northern Star. 

“He has a lot of experience with diversity, equity and inclusion; he is a leader in that area,” said NIU Executive Vice President and Provost Beth Ingram. “(Reneau) has a strong commitment to making sure that every student is respected and valued and supported on campus.”

Reneau received a bachelor of arts in communication studies and a master of education in guidance and counseling with an emphasis in student affairs from Texas State University. In 2016, he received a doctorate in adult, professional and community education.

“I think (Reneau will be) somebody who is very committed to ensuring that students have the experience that supports their personal and academic goals, he’s a good listener, that he will be collaborative and really listen to the voices of students but also be a strong advocate for students on campus and for thinking about the NIU experience from the students’ perspective,” Ingram said.

Reneau has been awarded over 20 awards and honors, one of them being the American College Personnel Association Men and Masculinities Coalition: Tracy L. Davis Outstanding Emerging Research Award in 2020.

Reneau will take over as Vice President of Student Affairs at NIU effective June 16.

“When he interviewed on campus everybody was just very excited by his approach to the position, his commitment to students, his understanding of how student affairs and the student experience fits into the success for our students and we were just really grateful to find a candidate whose own personal values fit so well with NIU’s values,” Ingram said.
