Top romance movies

By David Rauch | February 14, 2007

1. "The Blues Brothers"

Valentine's Day is about spending time together doing what you both like. Very few movies bridge that divide like 1980's "The Blues Brothers." The music cannot be rivaled, the movie could not be more nostalgic, John Belushi and Dan Akroyd could not be funnier and there could not be a happier ending.

2. "Kindergarten Cop"

It's easy to say the late teens and twenty-somethings at NIU have nothing but fond memories of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Put on "Kindergarten Cop" this Valentine's Day. Watch it in the afternoon, lying around the house, upside down, hanging off couches, with Kool-Aid and popcorn.

3. "The Wedding Singer"

While any of the Adam Sandler movies would do, "The Wedding Singer" seems to be the safest bet. We have all seen the movie, and it is worth re-watching; not as though after five minutes of Adam Sandler's long, curly locks you will be paying attention to the movie anyway.

Top love songs

By Mat Warrenfeltz | February 14, 2007

Compiling a list of the best love songs is nearly impossible. No, actually, it is impossible. Romance is the one subject it is acceptable for an artist to write about in every song on every record. So instead, here's the top five songs by the band Love.

1. Love, "My Little Red Book"

Fuzzy, lo-fi guitars stomp in time with heavy-handed percussion in a tale of longing for the one who got away.

2. Love, "Seven & Seven Is"

Rifle-fast rhythms anchor this angsty, psychedelic garage anthem.

3. Love, "My Flash On You"

An almost danceable, suave take on the band's 1960's rock'n'roll.

4. Love, "The Daily Planet"

Distorted acoustics send this moody ballad's needles into the red.

5. Love, "Alone Again Or"

The band at arguably its softest, while strings and multiple harmonies drone out confessions of true love.

Public Enemy disappoints with conventional live offering

By Mat Warrenfeltz | February 13, 2007

There was a time when the idea of the "live" album meant variation on songs, the energy of the crowd, or a great sound that can't be produced in the best studio money can buy. Whatever happened to the idea of making great live albums that carry energy...

Fall Out Boy finds its groove with latest album

By Keith Beebe | February 13, 2007

It's funny how a hit album changes everything for a band. 2005's "From Under the Cork Tree" brought Fall Out Boy money and fame. Unfortunately for the group, it also brought big expectations for their follow-up album. So, it's surprising that "Infinity...

Of Montreal delve deeper, darker

By Derek Wright | February 13, 2007

Three songs into "Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?" it's clear this isn't the same Of Montreal. Even before Kevin Barnes sings "Don't say that I have changed/ Because, man, of course I have" on "Cato As a Pun," it is apparent that his supporting...
