Comcast’s ‘gruesome’ video of dead athlete uncalled for

By Tony Martin | September 21, 2010

I was raised by a pack of tree-hugging, violence-hating liberals.I couldn’t play with guns as a kid, and the evening news is more offensive to my family than any Tarantino splatter-fest.As a result of this, I tend to be a bit over-sensitive and saddened...

The presentation, which focused on a variety of copyright laws, was part of the NIU Notables Brown Bag Lecture Series.

Thanks to technology, we live in a time where literally anything and everything you can think of is right at your fingertips. However, that doesn’t mean it’s alright to simply snag any of these things. At least not with the complications of copyright...

5 sites to take a click to

By Jerene-Elise Nall | September 20, 2010

Most of us spend quite a bit of time on the Internet-- and by "the Internet," I mean Facebook. I know, it's so much more important to refresh your page over and over to make sure your ex hasn't posted any more snide status updates than it is to write...

‘Halo: Reach’ worth grabbing for

By Joshua Michaelson | September 20, 2010

Rating: 4.5/5.0 "Halo" is a series that could be considered just as big as "Madden" in terms of hype and appreciation from the general masses. So, it's only natural that "Halo: Reach" would be an incredibly big deal. This importance of the game is only...

Magician and Balloon Sculpter Tim Glander, of Whitewater, Wisconsin hands an alien balloon to Austin Allen as his father Mike Allen and Heather Romon watch on during the Sycamore Block Party Saturday.

Sycamore block party beats dreary weather

By Chris Krapek | September 20, 2010

The 10th annual Discover Sycamore block party went on this weekend as planned. Despite dreary weather, which cancelled some early activities for kids, the intersection of Somonauk and Elm was full with brave and bundled-up families Saturday afternoon....

Carolina Story is a tale all its own

By Troy Doetch | September 20, 2010

It's meant as a compliment when I say Carolina Story may induce vomiting. The husband and wife duo that played their ethereal folk pop Friday at The House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, are the most adorable couple ever, causing romantics to swoon and...

Michael C. Hall plays Dexter Morgan on Showtime's "Dexter." Season 5 premieres Sunday on Showtime.

Dexter, the one-trick pony

By Tony Martin | September 16, 2010

The following needs to be prefaced with a "spoiler alert," so if anyone hasn't watched everything up until the end of season 4 of Dexter, they should stop right here. Dexter is the most criminally (see what I did there?) overrated show on television....

Underage at NIU means an over abundance of fun

By Heather Skrip | September 16, 2010

For new and returning students, it may come as a surprise that there is more to do on a Friday or Saturday night, then partying on Greek Row, drinking in an apartment or going to a bar. Being under the age of 21 can only limit your weekend activities...

New Kingdom Hearts addition to please both old and new fans

New Kingdom Hearts addition to please both old and new fans

By Joshua Michaelson | September 15, 2010

RATING: 4.5/5.0 Many people are familiar with the Kingdom Hearts series by now. The concept of combining Disney characters with Final Fantasy characters into one game was a strange one that seemed to work for some reason. Featuring cheesy dialogue that...
