El Burrito Mexicano charged for violating license

El Burrito Mexicano is being charged with violating their liquor license.

The establishment is charged with permitting patrons to remain on their premises up to and including the hour of 3:17 a.m. and for allowing patrons to drink alcoholic beverages after business hours about 3:17 a.m.

Those violations can earn El Burrito Mexicano a fine and/or revocation or suspension of their Class B liquor license.

The establishment’s liquor commission hearing is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at the Municipal Building Conference Room, 200 S. Fourth St.

Rochelle receives grant from Dept. of Commerce

Rochelle received a grant Monday afternoon to help build an intermodal railport. Congressman J. Dennis Hastert, Don Manzullo and Assistant U.S. Commerce Secretary David Sampson announced the grant.

A representative from Hastert’s office said the railport will be a huge advantage for the local economy. The representative also said it will also provide many new jobs.

Hastert also met with area farmers in Dixon to discuss a new policy on Country of Origin Labeling.

No one injured in Malta house fire

Malta and DeKalb fire departments responded to a house fire at 8:35 p.m. Saturday at 106 S. Fourth St. in Malta. The fire was believed to be started by an electrical shortage in the kitchen.

Police said the fire caused extensive damage to the entire home. Police said no one was injured.

Fire officials are not sure of monetary damages.

Uncle Kracker to appear at On the Waterfront 2003

Uncle Kracker will take the stage Friday, Aug. 29, during Rockford’s annual On the Waterfront festival.

Kracker became known after co-writing songs for Kid Rock. In 2000, he made a name for himself with his solo album, "Double Wide."

Tickets went on sale June 21, but can be purchased by calling 815-968-5222 or online at www.centreevents.com.

Tickets are $19.50 in advance or $24.50 the day of the show.
