Two separate shootings keep police busy

DeKALB | Police made two arrests in connection with a DeKalb shooting at the Amber Manor apartment complex, 833 Ridge Drive, early Saturday.

Police responded to a 911 call at 4:51 a.m. reporting shots fired in front of an Amber Manor building, according to a police statement.

Police said the shooter struck three parked vehicles and shattered the glass door of the building. The intended victims were standing in the vestibule of the building when the shooter opened fire.

The shooter failed to hit any of the intended victims, but one victim fell to the ground to escape the gunfire and suffered a broken arm, according to a police statement.

Victims provided police with a description of the suspect's vehicle. Naperville police stopped the vehicle at about 6 a.m. and arrested the suspects, Edgar Garcia, 18, and Maryann Morales, 21, both of DeKalb. Naperville police recovered a .38 revolver believed to be used in the shooting, according to a police statement.

Both suspects face charges of attempted homicide, attempted aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Attempted homicide is a Class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine of $25,000. The other charges are Class 1 felonies, punishable by up to 15 years in prison and fines of $25,000.

Both suspects are being held at the DeKalb County Jail, with a bond hearing scheduled for today.

Police said both the suspects and victims in this case are known to have gang affiliations.
