Two fires keep crews on duty

By Dave Gomez | October 10, 2004

The DeKalb Fire Department and Office of the State Fire Marshall are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out at a DeKalb business early Sunday morning.

DeKalb firefighters responded to the smell of smoke near the corner of Seventh Street and Lincoln Highway at 2:19 a.m. An engine arriving on the scene found smoke and fire coming from the business office of DES Landscaping, 720 E. Locust St.

The call was upgraded to a box alarm, and Sycamore and Cortland engines were called to assist with the fire.

The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes and was contained to the north section of the building occupied by the business.

The fire destroyed all of the building’s contents, according to the DeKalb Fire Department.

Most of the $65,000 in damage was from the loss of interior possessions, said Lt. David O’Donnell of the DeKalb Fire Department.

There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
