Live with paper

April 25, 1990

In response to the April 19 article "Woman's Alliance Protests Newspaper": I feel that this is the most ridiculous article I've ever read. Those women holding up the "stop sexism" signs are only jealous of the women in the DeKalb Nite Weekly. How can...

What is sexism?

April 25, 1990

Regarding the reactions to the Women's Alliance protest of sexism in the DeKalb Nite Weekly, I would like to make a few comments. The allegation is that the Weekly's treatment of women is sexist. The publisher and others deny that this is true. I wonder,...

At least take some notice

April 25, 1990

For those of you who were out of town or deeply engrossed in studying at the time, marijuana was apparently legal on campus Monday. Yes, "Hemp Tour ‘90," a 60-date cross-country tour promoting the call to legalize marijuana, made it's way to NIU Monday....

Just say no Julies, Kevin, Colin, Ken

By Claudia Curry | April 25, 1990

Where's my MTV? What ever happened to the best television network to ever broadcast on the face of this earth? I know this might be difficult to imagine but picture this - a music television station. Not just a television station, but a station completely...

Double insult

April 25, 1990

Upon reading the article concerning admission requirements on the April 18 issue of The Northern Star, we were quite surprised to learn that Daniel Oborn has created his own form of racial discrimination. To enter NIU, whites must receive an ACT score...

Correction

April 24, 1990

The story titled "Fishing For A Bowl" printed in Monday's Northern Star contained misinformation.

The outcome of the USC vs. UCLA game Saturday would not have played a role in the NIU football team's chances to earn a bid in the Poinsettia Bowl.

Only Pacific-10 teams with 6-6 records would reamain if USC loses. By rule, a 7-5 NIU would trump them.

All other information was correct. The Star regrets this error.

NIU Athletic Director Jim Phillips announced Monday that the MAC will be releasing the bowl destinations this week. The Huskies are expected announce an acceptance of a Poinsettia Bowl bid in a press conference at the Barsema Alumni and Visitor's Center today at 11 a.m. (see story, Page 01).

Porcelain can’t fill real friend’s boots

By Alex Pope | April 24, 1990

I still look on the incident with disgust and pity. Unfortunately, "Party Til You Puke" is a pretty common saying among those who like to have fun drinking, but this was one time that the phrase had been followed to the word -- and too far beyond. The...

Rose’s wings need clipping

April 24, 1990

Society should resist the urge to forgive the immortal Pete Rose and let him swing in the tree he nurtured for himself. Rose will plead guilty Friday to felony tax charges after a year-long investigation focusing on income earned from signing autographs...

Alter methods

April 24, 1990

To all students, especially those graduating soon, this is an important time of the semester. A time to reflect on where we, collectively and individually, are going and have been. And from my standpoint, where we've been is riddled with idiocy on this...

Situation reaches boiling

April 24, 1990

DeKalb isn't the only place on the globe that's getting hot. South Africa, in its newborn quest to end the reign of Apartheid, is heating up pretty well, too. And if South Africans are serious about their fight to make things better, they must be ready...

Thank you Ryan

April 24, 1990

Recently a truly incredible person passed away. This person made many people open their eyes. I had never met him. He was not a movie star, or a comedian, or a nobel prize winner. He was his own kind of hero. He touched much of America, even as some of...

Medically sound

April 23, 1990

It is apparent from Claudia Curry's self- proclaimed style of reading the newspaper only by "the interesting headlines" she is as uninformed and narrow-minded as a person can be. You criticize a religion that you know nothing about other than the so-called...
