Making a sequel to one of the greatest horror films of all time can be a recipe for disaster. Fortunately, “Doctor Sleep” manages not only be good as a self-contained horror film, but also is a fantastic sequel to director Stanley Kubrick’s interpretation of “The Shining.”

DeKALB – The next 2019 Flashlight Tour will take place at 8 p.m., Friday at The Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. 2nd Street. It will be the last tour of the 2019 season.

DeKALB — One of the greatest albums of all time was brought to life by the band Think Floyd USA who used spectacular musicianship, a laser light show and on-stage animation to recreate the 1979 album “The Wall.” 

The NIU School of Music hosted the New Music Festival from Nov. 5 to Nov. 8 in the Music Building. Five concerts were shown over the course of four days and the Northern Star Entertainment Section sent multiple reporters to cover this event.

Chicago — Thanksgiving break is not nearly as long as winter break, so it can be harder to take long trips away from DeKalb. Luckily, Chicago is not far and there are always plenty of events downtown for those who can't plan lengthy trips.

With finals approaching, focusing on multiple research papers and a semester’s worth of material can become an agonizing task; however, music can make it a little more tolerable, and almost enjoyable.

“Last Christmas” takes the genre of romantic comedies and adds very little. At the same time, the film is a relatively pleasant experience that will make most viewers feel the fuzzy sensation of the Christmas spirit resulting in a harmless, and at times charming, film.

DeKALB – The ABBA Show’s first ever tour in the United States and DeKalb included four DeKalb High School student musicians, and was an absolute blast to watch. The performance started at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Egyptian Theatre, 135 N.  Second St.

NIU’s Esports Student Sport Club is hosting a six week Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament. The competition began Oct. 18, and the next tournament will take place at 6 p.m. Nov. 9 at  NIU Hoffman Estates, 555 Trillium Blvd. There will be two more competitions the following Saturdays.
