Netters swing back into action at Bowling Green

The NIU men’s tennis squad travels to Bowling Green State University this Saturday for a two-day individual tournament.

After dominating the Mid-Continent Conference’s Fall Invitational at the end of September and fresh off of an exhibition against alumni netters last week, the Huskies are eager to showcase their talents against some of the better tennis teams that the Midwest has to offer.

“This is a very highly competitive individual tournament,” coach Chuck Merzbacher said. “We’re up against some experienced teams and players which will definitely test our young crew. Even though we have a lot of new faces, to an extent there will be teams aiming to knock us off after last year.”

Merzbacher refers to the strong performance of last year’s squad at Bowling Green’s Keefe Tennis Courts. The Huskie netters captured three of six singles titles and one of three doubles flights for a total of four titles.

Joining the Huskies and the host Falcon’s in the tourney will be the University of Cincinnati, University of Evansville, University of Toledo, Xavier University and Western Michigan University.
