Linksters complete fall with frustrating outing

Sixth-place in the 12-school University of Iowa Hawkeye Invitational? This definitely wasn’t the kind of finish to the fall season that NIU women’s golf coach Pam Tyska envisioned.

Unfortunately, that’s what the Huskies got after 54 holes of play in Saturday and Sunday’s Hawkeye Invitational. Perhaps it was as frustrating as last weekend when NIU didn’t even get to play due to rain. But prior to that, the Huskies claimed three tournament championships in four outings.

“I’m not sure what happened, but I know we’re not going to dwell on it. When we started the year, all the breaks seemed to go in our favor; now it’s as if every break has to work against us,” Tyska said. “However, it doesn’t take away from all the things we accomplished earlier.”

NIU couldn’t overcome a frustrating first 18-hole team tally of 340. Nicole Jeray led the Huskies with a 244, while Karen Bromberg was next with a 247.
