In a second straight 6-1 loss, NIU women’s tennis (13-10, 2-5 MAC) were defeated by the University of Toledo Rockets (14-4, 7-0 MAC).
The Huskies won one match in each singles and doubles competition.
Senior Diana Lukyanova and sophomore Isabella Righi were bested by Toledo seniors Cassie Alcala and Julia Kuszynski in a 6-1 set. Senior Anastasia Rakita and sophomore Jenna Horne dropped a 6-3 set against freshman Gaby Rondon and sophomore Audrey Moutama.
Junior Erika Dimitriev and sophomore Nataly Ninova took a 6-3 victory over fifth-year Sloane Teske and sophomore Sanjana Tallamraju.
In singles matches, Dimitriev prevented the Huskies from being swept by the Rockets after defeating Teske in 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 sets.
Lukyanova was bested by Alcala in a 6-4 first set, before being swept in a 6-0 second set. Ninova was defeated by senior Shalini Tallamraju by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Righi lost to Sanjana Tallamraju, 6-3, 6-4. After dropping a 6-0 first set to Moutama, Horne came back and won a 6-2 second set before being defeated 6-2 to end the match. Junior Angelica Ross was trounced by Kuszynski, 6-1, 6-2.
The Huskies look to prevent a three match losing streak at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sycamore High School Tennis Courts in Sycamore when they face Bowling Green State University.
