Nicole Zurita, a senior child development major, responds to a street interviews prompt. Do your goals align with what you wanted when you were younger? (Northern Star Graphic)

Goals. Everyone has them. They are a crucial part of life: the object that pushes people forward as they strive to accomplish everything they desire.

Some people have lofty goals, like winning an Oscar award. Some people are a bit more modest than that. Regardless, as people, everyone shares the desire to accomplish something in life.

One of the beauties of life, however, is that it is unpredictable.

As such, sometimes the things people strive for shift as they get older. On the other hand, some people’s childhood dreams make it all the way.

Life’s a person-by-person case, which is why it is so interesting. No one’s path in life is the same, and that includes the goals they are all working towards and whether those goals have changed over time.

Only about 6% of people pursue their childhood dreams into adulthood, according to the academic journal Social Forces. That’s a lot of goals changed!

Are your goals now the same as when you were younger?
