Flawless mark for netters

There’s nothing like building up your confidence before an important conference meet.

That’s exactly what the NIU women’s tennis team did, preparing for the North Star Conference Championships with a pair of league wins.

The Huskies bettered their NSC slate to a flawless 4-0 mark by defeating Akron, 8-1, Friday and then beating Wisconsin-Green Bay Saturday.

In both contests, the Huskies won five of six singles matches and all three doubles meetings.

“UW-GB is a tough team and will surprise some people at next weekend’s (NSC Championship) meet,” said Huskies’ coach Patty Groth. “These wins really boosted our confidence for next week. There are some solid teams in the conference this year, so we still know we’ll have to play strong.”
