It’s the first full week of October and spooky scenarios can start running amok in the heads of Halloween lovers.
Zombies are a classic monster trope, and surely most of us have thought about how well we’d fare if the zombie apocalypse began tomorrow.
But NIU is a busy place full of yummy brains!
If the first zombie outbreak started while we were on campus, what would Huskies do to survive?
Elimelech Freites-Alvarado and Jonathan Hernandez, both sophomore biochemistry majors, have a solid plan to use their chemistry expertise to their advantage: melt away that zombie skin with some cleverly-mixed chemicals!
Q: “The zombie apocalypse starts here on NIU’s campus. What’s your game plan?”
(Freites-Alvarado) A: “My game plan would be to go to Faraday (Hall), lock myself in the stockroom with all the chemicals. Just kind of booby trap it.”
(Hernandez) A: “Honestly, I agree. It was my idea with the Faraday thing. Just go to the fourth floor, the penthouse and the storage room. So like he said, all the chemicals. I forgot what else we got up there. We have a lot of –”
(Freites-Alvarado): “Dry ice!”
Klara Oresek, a first-year business and entrepreneurship major, aims to move as far away from DeKalb as possible while Ashley Hawkins, a sophomore nursing major, will get the closest resources she can as quickly as she can.
Q: “The zombie apocalypse starts here on NIU’s campus. What’s your game plan?”
(Oresek) A: “I would probably pack my stuff, get a gun, kill some of them, and then move to Antarctica.”
(Hawkins) A: “I think I would raid the stores, and then probably fill my gas tank because the car is going to get me the farthest that I need to do.”
Q: “Which store would you raid first?”
A: “All the grocery stores!”
Jay Tarvin, a senior nutrition and dietetics major, thinks she needs to start making some specifically skilled friends, so she can pull off her apocalypse plan!
Q: “The zombie apocalypse starts here on NIU’s campus. What’s your game plan?”
A: “I would probably like, go find some agriculture majors, and see if they want to be part of my group, and see if I can, like, benefit from them. Because all I can do is look pretty. So, that’s it!”
