NIU women’s tennis freshman Irmak Budak has been named the Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week for the second time this season, after previously earning the honor on Jan. 27.
With two wins against Bradley University and Cornell University over the weekend, Budak improved to 9-2 in singles matches on the season.
She bested Bradley junior Anna Belogliadova in 7-6 (7-0), 6-0 sets, before defeating Cornell junior Victoria Zhao in three sets. After dropping a 6-3 first set, Budak took 6-4, 6-3 sets to avoid the sweep for NIU.
This is the fifth MAC honor for women’s tennis this season. Junior Nataly Ninova and freshman Lucia Yecora have also earned MAC Singles Player of the week, while the duo of junior Jenna Horne and senior Reagan Welch were named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week on Feb. 17.
