Council reviews ‘REG’ issue

University policies regarding the illegal class registration of more than 100 NIU students will be discussed at Wednesday’s meeting of the University Council’s Academic Policy Committee.

The meeting will start at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in room 201 of Williston Hall.

Committee Chairman Conard White said the group will review the NIU Student Judicial Code and Undergraduate Catalog sanctions for the “falsification of documents.” Using these policies, the committee will make a recommendation to the UC concerning punishment for NIU students using a fraudulent “REG” stamp to register for spring 1988 classes.

White said that after reviewing the NIU policies, the committee will either “draft some additional document (outlining punishment for illegal registration), or say what (available academic) policy … is correct.”

The UC referred the illegal registration issue to the Academic Policy Committee at the Oct. 12 UC meeting. The committee is comprised of 13 members, including two NIU students, White said.
