DeKALB — The Interfraternity Council is investigating a situation where Phi Kappa Psi could be disqualified from the Tugs Championship. An Interfraternity Council executive member brought the incident up to other members of the board.

Phi Kappa Psi allegedly put an alternate in during the second rope of their semi-final matchup without notifying the Interfraternity Council. Their alternate weighted 195.4 pounds and replaced a tugger that weighed 158.4 pounds putting them over the weight limit.

A member of Phi Kappa Theta said the impact of the alternate could have changed the outcome of their match against Phi Kappa Psi.

The source stated that without the alleged illegal substitution, a tugger would probably have had to ironman all three ropes, leaving them worn out and possibly changing who would advance to the Championship match.

This would disqualify Phi Kappa Psi from competing against Sigma Nu in the Championship round scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, depending on the interpretation of the Interfraternity Council weight limit rules.

Phi Kappa Theta would compete against Sigma Nu in the Championship match following a Phi Kappa Psi disqualification.

A tweet from @NIUIFC said Phi Kappa Psi will compete in the championship.
