DeKALB —  The man being charged in the Grant North stabbing will be released on a signature with bond set at $10,000 and a pre-trial date set for Feb. 1.

The suspect, Abdul Rahmon Danyiwo, 18, of Lansing, appeared in DeKalb County Circuit Court today for his bond hearing via closed circuit video from the DeKalb County Jail. Judge Phillip Montgomery oversaw the hearing.

Judge Montgomery also appointed a public defendant to be Danyiwo’s lawyer in the case, as well as ordering Danyiwo to be monitored electronically from home.

Danyiwo is facing charges of burglary and two counts of aggravated assault after entering Grant Towers North Saturday night and stabbing an unnamed victim “multiple times about the head and body including the back and left arm,” according to DeKalb Circuit Court documents. Danyiwo was arrested in his hometown of Lansing, Illinois Sunday night.

It was revealed in court that Danyiwo has no previous criminal record and currently attends South Suburban College in Chicago’s south side full-time.

Details of the victim’s current condition were also released, with Judge Montgomery reading an update from police stating the victim has already undergone two surgeries and has lost feeling in his left wrist and hand. Danyiwo himself was wearing a cast on his left arm during his appearance, though it’s unknown if it stems from the incident in question.
