NIU women’s tennis: Huskies split 1st pair of MAC matches

By Northern Star staff

Women’s tennis suffered its first conference loss of the season as it went 1-1 in MAC play over the weekend.

The Huskies (10-4, 1-1) opened conference play with a 4-3 win over the Bowling Green Falcons on Friday in Bowling Green, Ohio. Then they lost to the six-time defending MAC champion Miami (Ohio) RedHawks, 6-1, Sunday in Oxford, Ohio.

Senior Nelle Youel won both of her No. 1 singles matches to push her season combined record to 24-0. She is two wins shy of equalling her career-best start of 26-0, which she accomplished in the spring of 2013.

The Huskies have hit a bump in the road as of late, going 2-4 in their last six competitions after opening the season 8-0.

NIU continues MAC play and returns home for the first time since Feb. 22 when it hosts the Toledo Rockets on Friday in Rockford.
