NIU track & field: Huskies head to Fred Wilt Invitational

Track and field looks to continue its run on knocking down records this weekend.

The Huskies will participate in the Fred Wilt Invitational, hosted by Purdue, all day Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind. NIU will take on Purdue, Ball State, Indiana State, Missouri State, Southern Illinois, Butler, Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, Indiana-Purdue Indianapolis, Valparaiso and others.

The Huskies broke five records over the past two weekends. Sophomore Claudette Day broke the 60-meter hurdles, long jump and pentathlon at the Jack Johnson Classic Jan. 30 and 31. Freshman distance runner Kelsey Hildreth broke the 5000-meter record and sophomore sprinter A’Iesha Irvin-Muhammad downed the 400-meter record Friday and Saturday, respectively, at the Meyo Invitational.

The MAC Indoor Championships are quickly approaching, scheduled for Feb. 27 and 28 in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The Huskies have already qualified for eight different events and hope to see that number increase with improved times in other events this weekend.

Senior Erin Scott opens the meet in the wieght toss Friday evening with the rest of the Huskies starting Saturday at 10 a.m.
