Women’s golf heads to MAC Championship

Women’s golf is headed into the postseason as it travels to The Hawthorns Golf Club in Fishers, Ind., for the MAC Championships, hosted by Ball State.

The Huskies’ regular season came to an end at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational April 12 and 13, where they finished tied for sixth out of 15 (323 322 645), after jumping three spots on the second day of competition.

The invitational featured six conference teams with NIU finishing in the middle of the pack, beating out three of the six.

NIU heads into the conference tournament with three golfers ranked in the top thirty out of 48, who qualify in terms of average score per round. Freshmen Lena Gautier, Sydney Brickey, and sophomore Connie Ellett were the Huskie golfers ranked in the top-thirty.

Gautier leads the Huskies with an average score of 78.23, placing her 20th in the MAC heading into the championships. Brickey is averaging 78.61 and is ranked at 27th, while Ellett averages a 79.05, ranking her 30th.

Last season during the championships, NIU finished in eighth shooting a 983 (324-330-329).

During that same season, Kent State won the conference title finishing with a card of 909 (303 298 308).

The Golden Flashes are the front runners again this season, as they return four players out of five from the MAC Championship team from last season. They’re averaging a round score of 298.14.

Kent State’s Jennifer Ha, who won the individual MAC Championship last season, leads the conference with an average score of 73.79.
