Women’s Soccer heads to Chicago

By Northern Star Staff

It’s an in-state clash for women’s soccer (2-5-1) this weekend as it takes on the Loyola Ramblers on Friday at Chicago.

Loyola (2-3-3) is coming off of a 3-0 win against the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Sunday and is led by junior forward Sammy Gage. Gage leads the team with two goals, four points and has played in all eight games this season.

The Ramblers are anchored by junior goalkeeper Monica Gonyo, who has allowed 13 goals this season with a goal against average of 1.49.

Looking to add to that goal against average will be NIU strikers Nicole Gobbo and Cori Frankenberg. Gobbo, a sophomore from Bartlett, has started all eight matches for the Huskies this season and has two goals and four points on the year.

Frankenberg has started and played in seven matches and the senior has two goals and four points for the Huskies.

Senior goalkeeper Amy Carr and the Huskies’ defense are still looking for their second shutout of the season. That will be possible against the Loyola team, which has a goal average of one per game.
