Wrestler Matt Mougin ended his NCAA tournament run with a 3-2 record, just missing out on an All-American spot.

On Thursday, Mougin upset Arizona State’s Blake Stauffer with a score of 4-2. Mougin had two takedowns in the match to upset No. 11-ranked Stauffer.

After his victory against Stauffer, Mougin faced Minnesota’s Logan Storley. Storley dominated Mougin with a 9-1 major decision with two takedowns in the first period alone and Mougin never recovered.

Friday, Mougin started off his consolation matches against Austin Gabel of Virginia Tech. Mougin got a quick takedown and then won the match as Gabel had to default through an injury.

Mougin then faced off against Penn’s Ian Korb. Mougin fired 13 seconds into the match and scored a takedown and never looked back. The Huskie won 8-3 and became the first NIU wrestler to score multiple victories in the NCAA tournament since 2009.

In his last match on Friday night, Mougin fell to Ohio State’s Nick Hefflin. The No. 8 Buckeye scored all his points in the first period to secure the victory over Mougin, who ends his season with a 23-17 record.
