Must-see films of 2013

2012 was a great year for movies, with top films like “Lincoln,” “Les Miserables” and “Django Unchained” getting high awards and ratings.

2013 will have trouble trying to beat all of last year’s hits.

If you are an avid movie-watcher, consider checking out these upcoming films:

 

“Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters”

This twist on the classic tale takes place 15 years after Hansel and Gretel’s incident in the gingerbread house. The duo takes revenge and begins to hunt for witches in the area. This action thriller stars Jeremy Renner (“The Avengers”) as Hansel and Gemma Arterton (“Clash of the Titans”) as Gretel.

This film releases Jan. 25.

“Safe Haven”

This new romantic thriller, based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks (“The Notebook,” “Dear John”), stars Julianne Hough as Katie Feldman, a young woman who ends up falling in love with a widowed store owner (Josh Duhamel) in a small North Carolina town and attempts to run away from her troubled past.

This film releases Feb. 14. It may make for the perfect Valentine’s Day date.

“The Host”

This film, based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer (“The Twilight Saga”) tells a futuristic story of a world where human’s bodies have been taken over by unseen enemies.

Unfortunately, for one body, the human’s mind is still active and wants to take over again. This film, starring Max Irons as Jared Howe and Saoirse Ronan as Melanie Stryder, is sure to please sci-fi or romance lovers. It may also attract any “Twilight” fan.

This film releases March 29.

“The Great Gatsby”

“The Great Gatsby” follows writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the 1920s Midwest and comes to New York City.

The scene has become flooded with drinking, partying, and sexuality. Caraway meets up with his cousin Daisy Buchanan and her cheating husband Tom and he becomes involved in all of the area’s secrets – including the city’s party-hosting billionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio).

This classic film remake is set to release May 10.
