Award-winning historian Timothy Snyder will give a lecture on the history of Nazi and Soviet mass killings at NIU, according to an NIU press release.

The lecture will be the ninth annual installment of the W. Bruce Lincoln Endowed Lecture Series and will begin at 7 p.m. on Sept. 19 in the Altgeld Hall Auditorium, according to the press release.

Snyder’s presentation is based on his recent best-selling book of the same name. It was named book of the year by a dozen publications and has been translated into more than 20 languages, according to NIU Today.

History professor Nancy Wingfield said Snyder’s many contributions to popular journals and public lectures make him one of the most visible public intellectuals in the U.S. and Europe, according to an NIU Today article.

The lecture series brings to NIU scholars who address topics that can interest both the public and the academic community.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
