The sentencing for former NIU student Zachary Isaacman has once again been postponed.

Isaacman, 23, was convicted of shooting another student, Brian Mulder, outside of Stevenson Towers last year.

The hearing was expected to rule on Isaacman’s motion for a new attorney. Isaacman filed the motion in January claiming ineffectiveness of counsel.

“Isaacman’s attorney was not available that day due to medical reasons,” said Stephanie Klein, DeKalb County assistant state’s attorney.

A jury found Isaacman guilty of aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon on Dec. 17.

Klein said that, in Illinois, the penalty could range anywhere from six to 30 years in prison.

The new court date is scheduled for Wednesday at 8:45 a.m., Klein said.
