Huskies take it one game at a time

It’s back on the road again as the NIU women’s soccer team travels to Michigan this weekend.

The Huskies (5-2-3 overall, 1-1 MAC) face Central Michigan (7-2, 2-0) at 4 p.m. today and head to

Eastern Michigan to face the Eagles (6-3-2, 1-1) at 1 p.m. Sunday.

CMU opened its conference season with victories over Ball State and Miami and have out-scored

its opponents 17-4.

EMU exploded offensively Sept. 26 posting a 5-0 victory over Miami. The Eagles own a 8-3-1 series record over the Huskies, but NIU pulled out a 1-0 victory over EMU last season.

Barker spoke of how unpredictable the MAC can be and that the Huskies just need to continue to play their game.

“On any given day, anybody can beat anybody,” Barker said. “We just have to show up everyday ready to compete and stick to our game plan and don’t allow any outside sources to distract us.”

This weekend marks the first time the Huskies will hit the road in conference play, but Barker does not think it will be a problem for NIU.

“We’ve done well on the road and when you’re on the road, you’re that much more focused because you’re in a hotel,” Barker said. “But it’s just a typical weekend, we just happen to be on the road.”

At practice, the Huskies tried to forget about a tough loss to the Rockets earlier in the week.

“We need to put Toledo behind us for now and focus on what we need to do this weekend,” said junior Kelly Mullany.
