Five minutes with Jenna Clauson

By DERRICK SMITH

Senior Jenna Clauson serves as a mighty presence on the field for the NIU women’s soccer team both offensively and defensively.

The defender nailed the goal that earned the Huskies a tie with Kent State Sunday afternoon and extended NIU’s unbeaten streak to five games.

Clauson decided to take a break from bullying forwards and intimidating goalkeepers to chat with the Northern Star about her experience here at NIU and hometown basketball stars.

Northern Star: What is the most interesting thing about your hometown of Racine, Wis.?

Jenna Clauson: Being on the lake is really nice. We have beach volleyball and other activities that go on in the summer. There is a volleyball club that comes every summer. [NBA player] Caron Butler is from there as well.

NS: Have you met him?

JC: Yes. He’s come to the high school and he’d always come to the YMCA to play ball with the kids.

NS: What made you choose to come to NIU?

JC: I knew I wanted to go to school for business and I heard about the business school being ranked high in the country. It’s far, about two hours from home, but it’s still close enough for my parents to come watch my games.

NS: Now that you are in your last year, how has your experience been thus far here at NIU?

JC: It has gone by fast. I’ve met a lot of people because I didn’t know anyone here. I’m going to take a lot away from here from things I’ve learned from professors to the friends I made. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.

NS: What is the best part about playing defender?

JC: Frustrating the forwards and just getting in their heads that they’re not going to beat you. It’s also nice because all plays start out of the back and we create opportunities to score.

NS: What are your favorite types of movies?

JC: I enjoy watching funny movies. We watch a lot of comedies on road trips. I just love comedy.
