Vigil to honor slain U. of Central Arkansas students

A group at NIU wants students to show their support for the University of Central Arkansas after a campus shooting killed two students and injured one Sunday night.

Huskies United, whose mission is to unite the NIU campus in times of adversity, is holding a candlelight vigil tonight at 9 p.m. at the King Memorial Commons.

Justin Kuryliw, a junior business major and president of Huskies United, said the group purchased 1,000 candles for the vigil and wants as many students as possible to be there.

“We want to show that we’re united for them, just to show some compassion like Virginia Tech did for us,” he said.

Ryan Sego, a senior geology major and secretary of Huskies United, stressed the importance of tonight’s vigil.

“We want to make NIU a family and families look out for each other,” he said.
