Patriots trump in Star Super Simulation

By ANDY PRUSKI

With all the pre-game traditions leading up to the Super Bowl, there is perhaps none greater than the Northern Star’s “Super Simulation.”

In just its second year of existence it is already a much-hyped event, and anticipated all over the country.

If you don’t already know the details, here they are. The Super Bowl is simulated with Madden 2008 on Playstation 2 with all the current roster updates (sorry Ahmad Bradshaw, you didn’t make the cut). The quarters are set to five minutes and the computer is left to battle it out with itself.

Without any further adieu, we bring you “Super Simulation.”

The stage was set for Tom Brady and company to make history at Super Bowl XLII, and the reigning MVP did not disappoint. The Patriots completed the season sweep of everyone, beating the Giants 20-10 to finish a perfect 19-0 on the season.

The Giants took an early 3-0 lead on a field goal by Lawrence Tynes. The Patriots responded with a 48-yard touchdown strike from Tom Brady to Donte Stallworth to take control of the lead.

“We knew from the tapes that when the Giants defensive coordinator scratches his nose they play up on the receivers,” Virtual Brady said. “I had a good feeling Donte could get behind the safety and he did.”

Stallworth was the beneficiary of tight coverage on Randy Moss and had 10 catches for 139-yards and two touchdowns, earning him the Super Bowl MVP.

New England added a field goal and went into halftime with a 13-3 lead.

The Giants came out with a chip on their shoulder in the second half and got into some shoving matches with New England. After the referees broke it up, New York linebacker Kawika Mitchell took out his aggressions on Brady who had to leave the game with an injured chest.

Brady’s backup, Matt Cassel, calmly stepped in and on his first pass threw the ball right to New York cornerback Corey Webster.

Webster however, was unable to handle the ball as it bounced off his shoulder pads and into the arms of Stallworth for a 13-yard touchdown.

After the game, virtual Patriot wide-out Randy Moss was asked about his teams less than perfect play.

“You can’t spell imperfection without perfection,” Virtual Moss said. “Being imperfect is what made us perfect.”

With the game slipping out of reach for the Giants, Manning hit Amani Toomer early in the fourth on an 8-yard touchdown pass to move them within a touchdown at 17-10.

That was one of the few bright spots for Manning who went 14-32 for 209 yards.

The Giants, needing a defensive stop, got the ball back on a fumble by Lawrence Maroney. Manning was unable to move the ball and turned it over on downs.

Brady did return to the game, but the Giants defense held strong forcing a 46-yard field goal by Gostkowski, which sealed the championship for New England.

Brady finished 16-23 for 216 yards.

In a truly bizarre moment after the game, a man wearing a fake mustache snuck into the Giants press conference and asked virtual Manning if he thought “Peyton would have orchestrated one of his trademark comebacks to win?”

When Eli Manning began to answer he was interrupted by the man who said “The answer is no Eli! You’re not as good as your brother and you’ll never have rock hard abs.”

After security was called it was revealed that the man was Peyton Manning, who was dragged out of the room while singing “We are the Champions.”
