Several events will happen on campus this week acknowledging African American leaders and issues.

NIU will hold the African American Leadership Conference from April 10 through 14, sponsored by black organizations on campus.

The AALC is the largest student-run conference in Illinois and will host several events throughout the week. The goal of the AALC is to raise awareness of African American issues and reflect the positive leaders on campus and in the world.

Nakia Brown, Chair of the African American Leadership Conference, said this conference will be a positive experience for many.

“We all must become involved in order for positive change to occur,” Brown said.

She said it is a chance for African American leaders from different backgrounds to share opinion on the different issues, perspectives and concerns of today’s African American communities.
