CAB budget discussed at SA finance meeting

In one of its final meetings before 2005 organization budgets are due, the Campus Activities Board’s 2005 budget was discussed by the Student Association’s Finance Committee Sunday night following a senate meeting.

The committee reviews and approves budgets before the proposals are sent to the senate for approval.

The Campus Activities Board requested $812,165. While not official until submitted for approval, the current allocation for CAB by the committee is set at $450,958. About $200,958 of that was set aside for the administrative budget.

“It’s absurd to cut student organizations with $400 budgets,” SA Treasurer DuJuan Smith said.

In total, $2.2 million dollars was requested from all organizations. The SA has $1.3 million to allocate.

The finance committee is scheduled to meet at 9 p.m. Wednesday at the SA office conference room to finalize the rest of the budgets.

SA Senate meeting

Plans to make complaint forms about the Huskie Bus Line available online are progressing, the SA Senate was told by mass transportation director J.R. Perez.

Perez said the citizens who live in the Garden Road area are concerned about safety on the street. The road is near Barsema Hall and has been slated for future improvements to handle the weight of the buses.

Senator Holly Creamer asked Perez about plans to repair the Holmes Student Center bus turnaround. Perez told the senate re-doing the surface is in the master plans for the remodeling of the HSC.

“It should be more of an issue; it’s pretty bad,” Creamer said. “Is it going to make it another year? It has to be bad on the buses.”

The senate also approved six student groups for official recognition.

The next SA Senate meeting is 6 p.m. Sunday at the HSC’s Clara Sperling Sky Room.
