Heizer falls to nation’s top wrestler at all-star meet

Ben Heizer, NIU’s No. 2-ranked 184-pound wrestler, came up short in his rematch against No. 1-ranked Greg Jones of West Virginia, 10-6, Monday night.

Heizer, who lost to Jones earlier this year for his only previous defeat of the season, had the last takedown of the match and had other opportunities to score some points at the 38th Annual National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Wrestling Classic.

“It was a good match,” NIU coach Dave Grant said. “He wrestled hard and looked really good. We have a few things we need to change, but he looked good and wrestled hard.”

This was the second time in as many years that NIU was represented in the NWCA All-Star Wrestling Classic.

Last year, it was NIU’s 157-pound Scott Owen who went to the even and fell to Keaton Anderson 4-2.

Heizer now owns a 21-2 record on the season.
