NIU to finish exhibition

NIU women’s basketball coach Carol Hammerle told each of her players to focus on one thing to improve in Saturday’s exhibition finale against the Odyssey Club at 2 p.m. at the Convocation Center.

“If every player can make one adjustment and get better, that would help going into our opener with Loyola,” Hammerle said.

The Huskies won their preseason opener last Friday 81-47 over the Chicago Challengers.

Hammerle’s starting lineup will be Monique Davis, Stephanie Smith, Lindsay Secrest, Jennifer Youngblood and Jamie Wilson.

Secrest led NIU with 16 points in the first exhibition game. The Huskies shot 55.4 percent from the floor in the game.

In Saturday’s contest, Hammerle would like to see an improvement in the team’s offensive rebounding.

Hammerle said she will treat this game like it’s the home opener. However, playing everyone is a priority for the fifth-year Huskies coach.

“Exhibition games are great for the coaches and the players,” Hammerle said. “Last game was so much fun. I felt good about our defensive effort and how we took care of the basketball. We shot the ball extremely well and I just want to see everyone improve some from the first game.”
