The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a case of possible foul play in the death of a person who was found Wednesday night in Sycamore.

Joseph Brandt, 35, of Sycamore, was found dead at his residence about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

“The landlord of the property where the gentleman rents noticed the lights had been on,” DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said. “That’s when he discovered the body.”

An autopsy was scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday to determine the exact cause of death. An update was not available at press time.

“We suspect it was foul play,” Scott said. “We’re still in the early stages of investigation.”

The death is being investigated by the DeKalb County Major Case Squad, which is made up of the sheriff’s office, DeKalb police and Kane County police.

Two University Police detectives, Roger Van Vlerah and John Lovell, also are involved in the case.

Anyone with information regarding this death is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 895-2155 or Crime Stoppers at 895-7232.
